As a resident of Mound, MN, I felt our city was very blessed to have three kids that wouldn't settle for second place in anything call Mound their home town. From 1937 through 1952 the Andrews Sisters ruled the music world, selling over 90 million records, and having 113 charted hits. They also had 46 top ten hits which is more top ten hits than either Elvis Presley or the Beatles. Besides all of their accomplishments, they gave us a boost each and every day with their upbeat and happy music during a very dark time for America, the end of the depression and throughout World War ll. After being ignored for over 60 years I thought it was time to get them some ongoing physical recognition in Mound because once our generation is gone the Andrews Sisters connection would be gone forever. I am thankful that the Andrews Sisters Trail will secure their connection to Mound, MN for future generations. |

When I was 5-6-7 years old my parents owned a nightclub/resort business on Maxwell Bay of Lake Minnetonka . There was a jukebox in the restaurant and I spent a lot of time listening to the music, of course back then every other song that played was by the Andrews Sisters and it was common knowledge back then that the sisters were from Mound.

Throughout my life I have always clipped articles about the Andrews Sisters from newspapers and magazines and kept them in a shoebox. I always wondered why the City of Mound or some civic group in Mound never gave the Andrews Sisters any permanent recognition in the town, like a sign or plaque saying “Home of the Andrews Sisters” Last spring I was going through a closet and came across that shoebox, I took it out and read some of the articles, it was then that I realized that over 60 years had gone by and still nobody had done anything. That is when I thought, “Maybe this is my job” I had no idea it would take me eight months to get the job done but I did learn one thing, if you believe in something, the more resistance you get, the more determination you get, and the determination won out. That is how “The Andrews Sisters Trail” became reality. |
